The medieval calendar that celebrates eel - 2027

Celebrating Eel 2027 is a wall calendar quite unlike any other!

Twelve months are painted as pages from a medieval manuscript - each a gold-ringed roundel with its own banderole - telling a piece of Somerset's forgotten history with the eel: spearing blindly through the winter ice, glass eels netted on the spring tides, elvers climbing the weirs, rents paid to Glastonbury Abbey in eels by the thousand.

Here was a creature that once mattered as much as the apple or the cow. It hangs as two A$ landscape sheets, the painting above and a full month of generous writing lines below, it earns its place on the kitchen wall as well as catching the eye. The cover carries replica tiles from the chapel dig at Beckery, on Bride's Mound. It's been produced by SERP to bring the European eel to life in our homes and offices.
